Q. I Fill in the blanks
a. To convert a 2D image to 3D object, you need to convert the image file into
.svg format.
b. In Tinkercad, you can move objects on the workplane using the arrow keys by 1 mm increments by default.
c. The Filament is called the ink of the 3D printer.
d. The Print bed of the 3D printer is the surface on which 3D objects are printed.
e. The outer layer of a 3D printed object is called as Shells .
Q. IV Answer the following questions.
a. What is Tinkercad?
Ans: Tinkercad is a simple online 3D design tool that is used to create simple designs from scratch or quickly modify existing designs. It can be used in your web browser without downloading any software.
b. Explain the significance of the Ruler tool.
Ans: It allows us to measure the different dimensions of objects and distances between them.
c. Explain the steps to change the measurement units to Inches?
Ans: Click “Edit Grid” in the bottom right hand corner of the workplane. A Grid Properties dialog box will appear on the screen. Click the drop down arrow of Units to switch to Inches.
d. What is the use of Edit Grid?
Ans: The Edit Grid is used to change the size of the workplane so that your design will fit on your printer without having to scale it.
e. List the main components of a 3D printer.
Ans: The main components of a 3D printer are:
- Filament
- extruder
- nozzle
- printed bed
- layer cooling fan
- SD Card reader.
f. Explain the role of the extruder.
Ans: The extruder is a place where the plastic filament gets drawn in, melted and pushed out. The extruder is also called the print head of the 3D printer.
g. List some of the measures involved in the maintenance of a 3D printer.
Ans:
· Do not use the printers unless you have been trained.
· Always keep the built plate clean.
· Ensure that surfaces that slide against each other are sufficiently lubricated to operate smoothly and not cause friction that could physically wear out the parts.
· The nozzle may clog from time to time. Thus you should clean the nozzle periodically with a small drill.
· Tighten the pulley screws as due to the continuous motion there are vibrations in the system that result in the loosening of the pulley screws.
· Always remove the filament from the printer and keep it away from moisture when the machine is not in use.
