  1. Define Styles in OpenOffice Writer?


Styles are predefined combination of font style, colour, size of text, indentation and alignment of text that can be applied to the selected text, character and paragraph to change the appearance of the document. 


  1. State the use of Character Styles?


Character styles change the appearance of selected text, for example, font name, font size, bold, italics.


  1. Write down the steps for applying styles in OpenOffice using any method?


  1. Click on Format🡪 Styles and Formatting from the menu bar. The Styles and Formatting window appears.

OR

Click on the Styles and Formatting icon from theFormatting toolbar or simply press F11.

  1. Click on the required styles icon to display the list of styles in a selected category.

  2. To apply a style, place the cursor in the paragraph, frame or page that needs to be modified and double-click on the name of the style.

  3. To apply a style to the text, select the text first and then double click the style from the Character Styles list.

To insert image from file, follow these steps:

Changing Properties For Drawing Objects:

Once the Object is created, you can change its properties like fill colour, line type.

To change the properties of a drawing object, follow these steps:

  1. Select the object.

  2. On the Drawing Object Properties toolbar, click on the icon for each property and select the desired value for that property.


  1. Define Template?


Template refers to a sample document which is not completely blank. It already has some data filled in it, which can be used to save time.


Templates are a predefined set of formats using which a new document like fax, memo or legal document can be created quickly. 




  1. Write down the steps to edit a template?


Writer provides the facility to edit a template, styles and content. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click File 🡪 Templates 🡪 Organize. The Template Management dialog box appears.

  2. Double click the folder that contains the template that you want to edit. All the templates contained in that folder appears below the folder name.

  3. Select the desired template.

  4. Click the Commands button and select Edit from the drop-down menu. The selected templates opens up. 

  5. Edit the template and click File🡪Save option to save the changes. The templates gets updated.

Index / Table is used to set the attributes of table of contents. Following are the attributes of table of contents.

Calccan be used to create a spreadsheet database which will act as a Data Source for the mail merge.
