Introduction to GIMP

1.) What is the abbreviation of GIMP?

Ans :-  The abbreviation of GIMP is GNU Image Manipulation Program.

 

2.) What is the by default file extension of the file saved in GIMP

Ans :-  The default file extension in which GIMP file is been saved is .xcf

 

3.) State the difference between foreground color and background color

Ans :-  The foreground color is used for adding paint, fill or strokes whereas background color is made used for making gradients and fill in the erased areas. The default color of foreground color is black whereas the background color is white.

 

4.) What is Image Editing Tools?

Ans :-  Image Editing Tools are the number of tools which are only used for image editing, but one should make sure that before editing any image or its part, it is necessary to select the image or its part. Image Editing tools are divided into two parts which are Area Selection Tool and Color Selection Tool.

 

5.) What is the use of Bucket Fill tool

  Ans :- The Bucket Fill tool is used for fill the selected par of the image/picture with the foreground color. But if incase you want to fill with the background color then one must press CTRL key from the keyboard and then clicking inside the selected portion of the image/picture.

 

6.) What do you mean by Color selection tool? Explain the different types of color selection tools?

   Ans :-  The color selection used for selecting the areas of the images which are based on the color values. There are two types of color selection tools which are :-

Fuzzy selection tool – By using this tool, we can select the adjacent areas of images which are based on color values. For applying color with the help of Fuzzy selection tool is one has to select the tool and click on the color to select.

Select by color tool – This tools is used for making the selection for the areas of the image those are based on color values in the whole image. For applying color with the help of Select by color tool is one has to select the tool and click on the color to select.

 

Q5.)  Answer the following questions :-

1.) Write a note on GIMP

Ans :-GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a free open software which is mostly used for image editing. Image editing consists of photo retouching, resizing, cropping etc. It can be also used in simple paint programs. In the year 1996, the first version of GIMP 0.54 was been released which as written by Peter Mattis and Spencer Kimbell. But in the year 1998, the latest version GIMP 1.0 was been released and in 2012, the latest stable version GIMP 2.8 was been released.

 

2.) State the difference between Free Select tool and Scissor Select Tool.

Ans :-a)  Free Select Tool :-  If incase we need to do the selection of image free handly, then we can make use of this option which means we can select the picture or image as per our choice. Selection not done in shapes like in circle, rectangle, square etc. For doing free hand selection, one has to select the tool, and then click and drag to draw the shape to be selected. Once done doing selection, to complete it now one has to click at the first point or press the Enter key from the keyboard.

b)  Scissors Select Tool :-With the help of this tool, we can select a region defined by strong color changes at the edges. This tool performs the work of easily detection of the edges and the selects the shape. Just we need to click at the various ends/edges of the shape. To finish the selection, we just need to click back at the first point or press Enter key from the keyboard.

 

3.) Write down the steps of how to use Text tool in GIMP

  Ans :-  If we want to write any thing in the image, then we can perform such task with the help of this too. The steps for using this Text tool are as follows :-

  • Select the Text tool option.
  • Now select the color of your choice, that you wish to write the text in the image in.
  • Select the font and font size for the text that is to inserted.

Take your arrow pointer in the document and make a click into it, and then type the text.

4.) What do you mean by Cropping an Image. Explain the steps.

    Ans :-  Cropping an image means removing or deleting of unwanted, unnecessary, un useful parts from the image. We can crop an image by making use of the Crop too or the Selection tool. The steps for cropping an image are as followed :-

  • Open the image.
  • From the tools panel select the Crop tool or Select Tools  ——-  Transform Tools ——– Crops.
  • The shape in the cursor will change.
  • Click on the area and drag it until where you want to retain .
  • The area which is to be cropped gets highlighted. If we want we can modify the selection like increase it or decrease it (by clicking at the side of the corner handles and dragging them) as if the selection remains active
  • now press the Enter key from the keyboard for cropping.

OR          

  • If you don’t want to crop then you may press the Esc key from the keyboard.
